Publicly funded organisations including schools are now required to purchase low energy electrical products qualified under ENERGY STAR® 4.0.
ENERGY STAR® 4.0 is an EU mandate applying to all public procurement Europe-wide that requires purchasers of office equipment to buy products carrying the ENERGY STAR® logo. The tough new ENERGY STAR® 4.0 requirements mean that only a minority of computers, including integrated PCs, currently qualify.
Before committing to purchasing it is worth getting confirmation that a PC is ENERGY STAR® 4.0 qualified. Qualified products - including the Akhter LoCO2PC - can be found on the official ENERGY STAR® Website
Global warming and our impact on the planet concerns us all; a fact that has led to policies emerging from major household names, keen to lead in demonstrating their environmental responsibility.
Government funded organisations too are increasingly required to purchase low energy devices.
The Climate Change Bill of November 2007 introduced mandatory targets for reducing carbon-dioxide emissions and applies to organisations, using 6,000MWh+ of electricity per year.
While attention on the Carbon impact was once largely focussed on the aviation and other transport industries, IT now accounts for 10% of the UK's annual energy consumption, so a real contribution to reducing CO2 emissions can be achieved just by switching to computers designed to minimise energy use.
Becta are advising schools to think seriously about reducing their own environmental impact: "There are things you can do to lessen the environmental impact. When purchasing new equipment ask about energy use and efficiency."
The integrated PC concept of LoCO2PC is an inherently "green approach" that reduces transport costs, uses fewer resources in manufacture, cuts down on packaging waste and complies with the WEEE and RoHS environmental regulations.
The Akhter Group and its associated companies are committed to developing energy efficient products. With constant consideration for our environment, together we can make a difference. Akhter has led in the research and promotion of environmental initatives. These have included; low energy lighting, solar power, electric transport, rechargeable batteries and energy efficient computers.
The Akhter LoCO2PC represents a milestone in our ambitions aimed at reducing the CO2 impact of everyday activities. LoCO2PC is built as an integral unit to share resources, reducing the overall power requirement compared to separate components. The product's overall environmental impact is minimised by reducing the amount of material used in its manufacture & packaging, as well as the energy used during transportation.
Simply by switching to the Akhter LoCO2PC, organisations will benefit from lower energy bills and the knowledge that they are reducing their overall carbon footprint.
The LoCO2PC system unit consumes 44W and the LCD display just 32W. Smart power management and low energy design ensure that power consumption is minimised, so that in ENERGY STAR® 4.0 tests the LoCO2PC achieves 55W in normal use. After a period without user activity the LoCO2PC switches to sleep mode - consuming only a tiny 3W - so forgetting to shutdown at the end of the day is not costly.
The Akhter LoCO2PC is the World's first ENERGY STAR® 4.0 approved integrated PC using the powerful IntelTM CoreTM2 Duo processors running at 3GHz and is suitable for the most demanding applications. Organisations that select the LoCO2PC to replace older multi-part desktop PCs will gain a powerful computer with 250GB storage capacity. Saving on energy bills will be significant, typically around £225 over 4 years could realistically be achieved, where PCs are used for 8 hours per day, 5 days per week (as well as saving 1.4 tonnes of CO2 emmissions). These savings will increase dramatically where PCs are regularly used into the evening or left on overnight, or if energy costs continue to escalate.
The "All-in-One" integrated PC approach has advantages over desktop PCs in releasing workspace. By eliminating the footprint of the desktop PC system, or the need for under desk space, the Akhter LoCO2PC brings comfortable, space saving design. The DVD writer incorporated into the LoCO2PC is the slim type normally found in notebook computers which, along with other mobile components, contributes to the LoCO2PC's compact profile. The LoCO2PC with the optional wireless networking is conveniently transportable - just unplug from the mains, relocate the workstation, plug-in and go!
The slimness of the LoCO2PC enables rooms that were not originally designed to accommodate computers to be used to maximum capacity. More leg room and higher density seating become feasible. All of this helps classroom planners to create uncluttered IT suites and classroom ICT facilities. Fewer external cables mean that not only is the visual appearance tidy, it brings a safer working environment for all. Permanently connected external ports are located on the underside of the unit, to restrict access. This minimises the scope for interference or accidental dislodging. A built-in Kensington lock adds to overall security.
Akhter's LoCO2PC provides a choice to seat the All-in-One unit in two different ways. The PC has its own stand as well as a built-in VESA 75mm/100mm mount. The desktop stand enables the All-in-One to be relocated easily. The VESA compliant mounting system provides the ability to locate the PC off the desktop. VESA is an industry standard mount for fixing screens to walls, ceilings or to the back of IT desks. With the VESA mounting system the LoCO2PC can be conveniently sited wherever computer screens are needed, without trailing leads or cumbersome separate system units. The use of a VESA swivel arm allows the PC to be swung aside whenever it is not required to provide a complete view over a room whenever needed. The absence of cabling ensures an inherently neat high tech room space.
The LoCO2PC's low energy consumption brings the added benefit that less heat is generated, and only minimal fan effort is used to disperse heat. A cooler computer is by nature a quieter one. In addition to the energy efficient integrated design the LoCO2PC has other features which ensure that operators have one of their quietest ever computing experiences.
The LoCO2PC has advantages over both notebooks and tower PCs that make it ideal for the classroom. A full 19" screen and full-sized keyboard make it ideal for children to use and it is less easily damaged than a notebook. Other advantages over notebooks are that there are no issues with battery life, recharging or secure storage. The compact design helps room planners to create multi-purpose classrooms. LoCO2PC is really economical to run and helps schools and colleges make their own contribution to the environment.
Unlike conventional multi-part PCs that are awkward to move around, the LoCO2PC is conveniently portable. For the LoCO2PC with a wireless option built-in, just unlpug the power cord, mouse & keyboard, relocate the All-in-One workstation, reconnect and go. Groups of LoCO2PCs may be relocated in minutes without any special tools, or the need for IT support staff to become involved.
A key advantage of the combined form is that fewer external cables are required, which not only keeps the work space more tidy, but also creates a safer working environment for all. Permanently connected external ports are located on the underside of the unit, minimising the possibility of accidental dislodgment or user interference. A built-in Kensington Lock provides security against theft.
The LoCO2PC incorporates a Hard Glass LCD Screen as standard. This feature minimises the risk of accidental damage to the screen. The glass is rated at 8H hardness which makes it durable enough to withstand daily use in tough working environments.
There is no compromise with the built in 19" LCD screen displaying SXGA (1280 x 1024 pixels) resolution. The display screen is comfortable to use from almost any position with its 160° viewing capability. Powerful video handling is assured via the Intel® GMA 3100 Graphics Media Accelerator. The LoCO2PC also supports external video output for high definition TV standard HDMI and other formats.
The Akhter LoCO2PC All-in-One is engineered for performance and space economy. The neat, slim-line profile helps to create a modern, uncluttered work environment which is safer and more spacious, without compromising performance or capability. The All-in-One computer is based on Intel's G31 Express Chipset, bringing flexibility and scalability for essential computing performance and there is a choice of processors, plus an upgrade path accommodating future processors.
